A Youth Leadership and Human Rights Development Initiative Is Launching in Tajikistan
Dushanbe, 11.02.2026 – The public organisation Bureau of Human Rights and Rule of Law, in partnership with the national organisations Ilmhona and SPIN Plus, is launching in Tajikistan the initiative “Empowering the Next Generation: Youth Leadership, Digital Transformation and Legal Reform for an Inclusive and Resilient Civil Society in Tajikistan”. The project is implemented with the support of the European Union and aims to strengthen the capacity of civil society organisations in Tajikistan, expand the participation of young people and women, and promote inclusive, human rights–based reforms.
The initiative focuses on supporting the development of civil society in the country by increasing access to digital resources, enhancing financial sustainability, and creating an enabling environment for civic engagement. Within the framework of the project, hundreds of representatives of civil society organisations (CSO), young people, women, and activists from vulnerable groups will gain access to training in social entrepreneurship, digital skills, civic-tech innovations, and human rights advocacy. In particular, national summer schools on human rights for youth will be organised, along with internships in leading CSOs and training programmes on preparing alternative reports to UN treaty bodies. The project will also contribute to strengthening the monitoring of places of detention and conducting national awareness-raising campaigns against stigma and discrimination.
It is expected that the implementation of the initiative will help build a more resilient, technologically advanced, and inclusive civil society that is able to engage effectively in dialogue with state authorities, defend human rights, and contribute to the development of Tajikistan’s legal and civic space.
