Public organization “Bureau on Human Rights and Rule of Law” and Country office of the Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association (DVV International) conducted a roundtable dedicated to presentation and discussion of the Thematic Alternative Report on Implementation of the Convention on  Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women in the Republic of Tajikistan from the perspective of the rights of female ex-prisoners.

The report covers the period of 2013-2018. It touches upon the issues related to legal framework, rehabilitation and reintegration, obtaining and restoring identification documents, non-discrimination, right to labour and right to housing. Each section includes recommendations aimed at improving the situation of women exprisoners. The following public organizations contributed to the report: NGO “Jahon”, Public Fund “Your Choice”, and NGO “INIS”. This report was prperaed drafted by the public organization in Tajikistan, such as: Bureau on Human Rights and Rule of Law, PO Jahon, PF Your Choice, PO INIS.

“The report reflects the challenges faced by ex-prisoners. Released women are subjected to dual discrimination, both based on gender and the status of “ex-prisoner”. Upon release it is more difficult for them to reintegrate into their families and the society, they mostly face problems associated with finding a job and a place to reside. Family and community members ignore and neglect the released women. Therefore, it is very important to ensure the state support to such women to prevent them from further crimes” - said Nargis

Zokirova, Director of the PO “Bureau on Human Rights and Rule of Law”. A copy of the report is also available at www.bhr.tj/library This activity is implemented within the framework of “Human Rights Protection of Prisoners and Exprisoners” Project funded by the European Union and German Federal Ministry on Economic Cooperation and Development. The project is implemented by the Country Office of the Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association (DVV International) in partnership with local NGOs “Bureau on Human Rights and Rule of Law” and “Jahon”.
